Wadenhoe House was built in 1617, by the Earl of Westmoreland. A century later it passed into the ownership of Sir Edward Ward, whose daughter Jane married Thomas Hunt and thus the name of Ward Hunt came to Wadenhoe. The most famous Squire of the village was George Ward Hunt, who in 1868 became Chancellor of the Exchequer in the first Disraeli government.Prime Minister Disraeli and the great and good of the day were frequent visitors here during Queen Victoria reign. Wadenhoe had the first village to have a telegraph office outside of London so that contact with Westminster was possible. We are now able to offer 27 bedrooms in this stunning Jacobean manor house set in 8 acres of mature gardens, lawns and our kitchen garden where in season we grow our own soft fruits and vegetables.
