It was on October 26, 1982 that the Eco-outdoor concept Le Baluchon took shape, the fruit of the inspiration of seven students, their brains boiling and fond of adventures; Louis Lessard, student in biology and Yves Savard, student in graphic design then provided leadership. The real kick-off of the Baluchon, with the initiative of the community, however really began when in December 1982, Hydro-Québec ceded the rights to use the land of the old Damphousse mill. Month after month, the Baluchon corporation gains confidence and successively obtains the rights to enjoy the falls at Magnan, the Aux-Trembles fall, the Damphousse fall, as well as those of the Sabot de la Vierge archipelago. Beyond all expectations, support for the project is everywhere!

Meanwhile, join Louis and Yves, three pillars who played an important role in the creation of this exceptional resort: Ms. Céline Lessard and gentlemen Gilles Lessard and Jean Marc Gauthier. In 1986, the master plan for the future tourist resort was submitted to the various levels of government and several meetings were held to clarify the project. Two years later, the governments confirm their financial participation. Le Baluchon tourist resort will represent a total investment of $ 2 million! Construction begins under the supervision of Louis Lessard and Yves Savard who leave their respective careers to invest hearts and souls in Le Baluchon. A year later, on June 24, 1990, Le Baluchon, with 12 rooms and 20 employees, officially opened its doors to the general public. The student dream of yesteryear was taking shape.
